Kinchoi Lam is a sculpture, media and illustration artist based in Hong Kong. He graduated from the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. He focuses on considering the relations between daily life and contemporary arts in general and also attempts to bring a human touch to artworks in different media forms. Recent years, he is digging at the art of sculpture. Making public modern sculpture in the urban and industrial environment interests him a lot. He believes that sculpture can cultivate and provide an identity to our society, invigorate public space and bring more possibilities to our lives.
Artwork concept – “Harmony”
Under a rooftop, people from all walks of life diversely and uniquely interact in concert. Enlightened by friends and family, it is a piece delineates the formation of a family – seemingly edged and spiky, yet, these are the essential elements that bind, connect and shape a family.
This work is made up of different independent big and small sculptures, with curved and straight edges, resemble various types of human characters. Taking a look from the peripheral dimension you will discover the shape of the sculptures resembles the posture of a family moving forward.
Each of us in society is defined by our uniqueness and distinctiveness. However, via respect and understanding, people will finally find their own missing pieces in each other.
